Description
Synvisc and Synvisc-One are derivatives of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring product. They are intended to be injected into the joint to replace the synovial fluid (the fluid in which the joint is bathed, which is deficient in cases of osteoarthritis). Their role is to facilitate the functioning of the knee joint and to absorb the shocks to which it is subjected.
Viscosupplementation involves the injection of a liquid with viscoelastic properties to compensate for the loss of quality and quantity of synovial fluid, particularly in cases of osteoarthritis. Synovial fluid acts as a cushion, preventing the ends of the bones from rubbing against each other.
The range is available in two products:
- Synvisc® used in 3 successive injections at 1 week intervals: a glass syringe of 2.25 ml
- Synvisc-One® used in a single injection: 10 ml glass syringe.
Composition Synvisc – Synvisc one
hylane 8.0 mg, sodium chloride 8.5 mg, disodium phosphate 0.16 mg, monosodium phosphate hydrated 0.04 mg, water for injection preparations
Hylane G-F 20 is a sterile, apyrogenic, viscoelastic liquid containing hylane A and hylane B polymers produced from a highly purified avian extract. Hylanes are derivatives of hyaluronan (sodium hyaluronate: hyaluronic acid).
